Making a LaserIt Aluminum Sign.

Creating with LaserIt Aluminum

Have you ever thought about how sweet it would be to be able to hand your client a custom engraved metal sign? I did. And let me tell you the LaserIt Aluminum sold by JDS Industries doesn’t disappoint.

This image shows an example of LaserIt Aluminum that was CO2 laser engraved to say "MILMD Cane Corso."
Using the LaserIt Aluminum I purchased from JDS Industries I was able to engrave it and make this stunning sign.

Where do you get LaserIt engravable Aluminum?

This image shows a screenshot of the LaserIt Aluminum SKU: ALUM626 - 12" x 24" x .020" Silver/Black LaserIT Aluminum

First things first, we have to actually get that material and since this isn’t your standard plywood for lasering it does become slightly harder.

I buy mine from JDS Industries, however you have to have a business account to deal with them. I will add, setting up an account with them is really easy.

The brand again, is LaserIt, I could not find it on Amazon but I am sure it is out there.

Here is the VIDEO of my Aluminum engraving project.

CNC information on Vectric VCarve Pro

For transparency, I used Vectric Aspire for my CNC design construction. I did this mostly because it is the program I am most familiar with and try to keep those skills honed the most. VCarve Pro and Aspire are different, but most of the 2D attributes are the same.

This picture shows the Vectric Aspire program and describes my settings for cutting a sign.

It’s hard to see in the picture and video, but the bit I used was an Amana Tool 51417-k, O flute for aluminum and plastics

Securing the LaserIt to the CNC bed

Pleanty of options when securing materials to your CNC bed, but for this one I just chose the good old CA glue and painters tape. I am a firm believer in Starbond CA glue, but in true San Antonio fashion I couldn’t find any accelerator so I used some Titebond CA Accelerator.

Add the tape to the CNC bed and matching tape to the LaserIt aluminum, then add the CA glue to the tape on one or the other and spray the corresponding opposite.

I did put a weight on the material for a few minutes to ensure a good flat bond.
